Tops For Your Body Shape

Here are some tips to help you shop for tops that are right for your body type! If you're not sure what body shape you are check out my "Jeans For Your Body" post, where I've explained how to figure out which one you are. All the tops shown are from Express but are simple enough that you should be able to find similar ones almost everywhere!

Hourglass- Most things will look good however, try to stay away from baggy tops and if you are big busted ,empire lined shirts, as these will actually take away from your flattering shape and add weight to your frame, AH! You will look your best in fitted shirts that cinch at the sides of the waist, accentuating your curves!  V-necks and scooped necks are also very flattering.
Hourglass shaped celebrities: Vanessa Hudgens, Megan Fox, Halle Berry, Scarlet Johansen.

Pear- Avoid shirts that hit directly at the widest part of your hips because this will make your hips and thighs appear even larger! Make sure they hit right at the smallest part of your hips. You will look best in fitted tops with some sort of shoulder detail like some ruching on the top or embellishments; this balances your shoulders out with your hips. Wider necklines are also very flattering on you (wide v-necks, boat necks, and sweetheart necks) but stay away narrow necklines. (narrow V-neck )
Side note: A thing that personally drives me NUTS is when pear shapes wear long fitted shirts below their hips because they are trying to hide them! This is a NO NO, it actually makes them appear even wider and shortens your legs :/
Pear shaped celebrities: Kim Kardashian, Beyonce Knowels, Christina Aguilera, Natalie Portman.

Apple- You want to lengthen your torso and draw attention away from your tummy. Contrary to popular belief the empire waist line tops are not good for apples, it only gives off the preggers look! Also when you are an apple shape your tops should be no shorter than hip bone because this will typically make your top appear wider. What looks best on you are v-neck blouses or cardigans with buttons that go all the way down because it’s very flattering and also slims you’re upper body. And also stay away from waist belts, it will only cut your body!
Apple shaped celebrities: Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Jessica Simpson, Elizabeth Hurley.

Rulers- You can usually get away with most tops especially if you are skinny due to the fact that most runway models are skinny ruler shaped bodies. However most rulers lack curves and are usually a smaller bust, so if you want to create more curves then go for a top that cuts lower like a v-neck or scoop neck, also something flowy and/or with a lot of ruffle looks amazing on you! A good  push up bra goes a long way too ;) Also a shirt with an empire waist will add curves as well, especially one with a a v-neck!
Ruler shaped celebrities: Cameron Diaz, Keira Knightly, Jenny McCarthy.

  1. although I have to disagree that Cameron and Keira are ruler shaped (CD is definitely top heavy, and Keira is exactly the opposite- bottom-heavy), I'm so pleased to FINALLY see someone else who realized just because Beyonce, Kate and Kim have big tits and hips that does NOT make them hourglass shaped! Thanks!
