Friday Loves & A Little Note

A roundup up some little moments and items that made my week a little more special.

{Finding fresh flowers to breath a little more life and color into my bedroom}

{Sticking to my new years resolution of working on my blog}

{New pre-spring purchases from Express}

{Realizing all the pretty pinks and rose golds I have to play with this spring}

{Jezzy getting awfully comfy on my dress and looking to cute to move}

My last favorite doesn't have a picture and that's because it happened when we lost power for 3 hours. It's simply just a memory in only myself and close family's mind. As my mother, grandparents, brother, and I sat to eat a special prepared dinner, the power suddenly went out. It's easy to resort to complaining during these moments, however it was a moment that forced us all to actually enjoy each others company. Without the power I was unable to go right back to editing a new video, therefore I instead spent those three hours being silly and laughing until my stomach hurt with the ones I love most (besides Justin). It's hard not to think that this completely random power outage wasn't meant to be, when it resorted in having another happy loving memory to store away in my mind.

Now that I know I'll be doing a 'Friday Loves' post every week, I'll make sure to capture more moments like this.

What unexpected special moment did you have this week?

Happy Friday!

Le Tote Boutique Box Review

I love how Jezzy just can't pass up a good photo op in this post. Can you find the kitty?

I was contacted by Le Tote for consideration in reviewing their brand back in December. I was intrigued right away when they mentioned that I would be receiving 3 garments and 2 accessories valued at $200 for a monthly subscription fee of $49.00. When hoping over to their site I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a nice clean easy navigation set up - I'm always relieved when brands are up to par with their websites. So I went ahead and set up an account with Le Tote, which I have to say was a very easy quick process - A+ there - then it was onto the fun part. I browsed through their clothing and accessories shop while "Hearting" the pieces that stuck out most to me - this is how you build your closet - however I did notice that they had a mix of both updated trends and outdated ones. I'm going to be 100% honest with you guys and say that my closet on the site was on the small side since a lot of the items seemed a bit old. However I will say that the items I did find to be current, I loved.
When receiving the box in the mail it was warped nicely in red tissue paper sealed with a 'Le Tote' sticker, and also had the Le Tote  burlap tote bag along side. I was very excited to see that I received my top two favorites, the "Evi Little Black Dress" and "Antoinette Lace Blouse". Along with those items I received the 'Eve Snake Blouse', 'Boho Printed Scarf', and the stunning 'Barcelona Statement Necklace'. All items were in pretty good shape and the fit was almost spot on - which is saying a lot coming from a 5'3 petite girl. The best part about this particular subscription box is that you can exchange any items that don't fit or you simply don't like free of charge.
Over all I give this brand an A- for their clean updated website, easy navigation, innovative new spin on a monthly subscription box, and ease of returns. I understand that I was picking my items during the holidays, so the few items that were outdated don't bother me much at all - coming from someone who has worked in merchandising and retail for 7 years - I get it.
I'm excited to see what I get this month and share to share it with you all.

Check out Le Tote's site here: LeTote.com and let me know what you think in the comments.

Rose Toned & Cream Notes | Spring 2014's IT Colors

Hi loves,

As I've said before, now is the time to start thinking about your spring wardrobe and what trends you'd like to delve into. Every week I will be complimenting my 'Spring Wardrobe Prep' series with a mini trend report, which will be filled with little spring time secrets for you. I'll be looking to runway shows, street style photos, as well as fashion magazines to gather up what I believe to be trending once warm weather hits. So make sure to check back here weekly and follow me on twitter @TheStylesMeow and +TheStylesMeow if you'd like to stay one step ahead of everyone else this Spring! *wink wink*

First stop for today's Spring themed trend are two of my favorite colors to both wear and use in home decor, Rose and Cream. I noticed a bit of a theme on both the runway and in the streets of fashion week, which was was a quite large use of the two soft feminine colors. They were seen in rose colored dresses such as Narciso Rodriguez's textural mini, cream skirts like Nina Ricci's  flirty ruffled number, as well as crop tops, pants, and interwoven with floral prints.

I for one am naturally exited for this color trend, so of course I had to share my enthusiasm with you all by dedicating a whole picture montage of ways you can rock this color come spring! Let me know if this helped to inspire you a bit and what ways you will be incorporating this trend into your won individual style by commenting below!

3 Ways to Get Out of a Wardrobe Rut

Happy Sunday loves!

So, when a new year starts and the feeling of change is in the air, it's easy to look at your closet and get the urge to overhaul it completely. Trust me I know this feeling.

Now while revamping your entire wardrobe can be liberating, it's often not in the best interest of your bank account, especially being that it's still recovering from the holidays. So, whenever I get the itch to to turn my closet upside down, I instead add a few new refreshing touches to amp up the style factor. This method not only helps to give my style a chic update, but also helps to get more use out of the pieces I already have. Read on to find out how...

1. Buy What You Wear

Rather than venturing out to buy say, that $75 new embellished tunic at Norsdtroms, instead buy what you wear on a weekly basis. This means taking a look at your most worn items that are interchangeable, meaning you can mix and match easily with the rest of your wardrobe. An example of that for myself would be blouses. With blouses I'm able to style them many different ways with what I already have. So what I will do when I need an updated look is buy a blouse in a new print, texture, or style. Moral of this step, look for what you wear in new modern styles.

2. Buy a New Statement Accessory... or Two

Another easy way to modernize an old outfit is to simply add new accessories. Accessorizing can often be over looked by many when it comes to styling, however it's what can make or break an outfit. I like to browse magazines, Instagram, and OOTD's on other blogs, to find some new trends and inspirations for accessorizing. You can easily update your closet buy adding a new statement necklace or a pop of color handbag.

3. Buy New Modern Staples

I myself get especially tired of my style right around now. When I've been wearing that same sequined grey sweater since fall and my email starts to overflow with new spring collections, I get antsy in anticipation for something new! So, a go to for me when I start to get that, "I have nothing to wear" feeling, is to buy some new staple pieces with a modern twist. For example my dresser has become cluttered with sweaters and typography tee's this season. So to make my over-worn items feel fresh and new I'll buy a new layering piece, such as a boyfriend blazer in the upcoming seasons trend color, pink. This way I can layer it over my sweater's and tee's now and then transition it into spring. This can also apply to skirt, shoes, bags, and even jeans. So, look for staple pieces that have been updated for the following seasons trends, that way you can wear them now and later.

Key Spring Wardrobe Pieces & Intro to 'Spring 2014 Wardrobe Prep'

Hi loves!

I hope you are all doing well this beautiful Tuesday morning. Or at least it's beautiful here on the east coast; and I have to say after our weekend storm and having spent 20 minutes of scraping frozen snow of my car, thank goodness!

I've decided to start prepping my wardrobe for spring, so with that will come cleaning out my closet, researching trends, browsing through stores, and going through last years purchases. I also decided that I will document my spring wardrobe prepping in a whole new series for my blog as well as my YouTube channel! {www.YouTube.com/TheStylesMeow}I'm calling this my 'Spring Wardrobe Prep' Series! I will be giving tips on closet clean outs, updating you on spotted spring trends, pinning away spring inspirations on my Pinterest account, showing you how to wear your spring pieces in the winter, and more. I might even incorporate some home decor in their too. Anyone excited??

So, for those wondering, this is a preparation series. Why am I getting ready for spring in the middle of January? Because, very soon retailers will start getting their spring clothes in and you want to make sure you get your cute refreshing items before it's too late. So with that I have come up with a system of preparation that's tried and true, which has helped me in the past to 1. save money, 2. get items I love, and 3. build my wardrobe on a budget. Yeah I said budget! So make sure to follow me on Twitter @TheStylesMeow (+TheStylesMeow)  or sign up for emails over to the right of this blog, so you can follow me along this series and receive constant updates on blog posts and videos!

So, onto today's post! To kick off this series I will be prepping you {and myself} on what key pieces to keep an eye out for! These are 5 spotted street style trends for spring, that could very easily become your spring wardrobe staples. So grab a cup of coffee along with pen and paper, and take note my little Styles Meow Army!
Pinterest Version here: http://www.pinterest.com/thestylesmeow/spring-trends/

1. The New and Improved Crop
These crops have had a makeover in new textures, colors, materials, and shapes, making them more versatile than last years teeny tiny's. Still not comfortable with the midriff baring trend, counterpart it with a high wasted pant.

2. Cute Culottes
These are as if wide leg pants and the Bermuda short had a baby, and it's a girl! This one is for my daring trend setter girly's. However for a more demure version of this trend, try it in a shorter version like Asos's.

3. Full Midi Skirt
Pair this with your blouses in colder months and your crops and tee's come spring.

4. Pinks and Rose Notes
Pink was the 'it' color for street style at last Septembers NYFW. This color is at it's chicest in light pinks and rosy hues.

5. Blouses Revamped
The classic blouse is given quite the couture touch it needed in dresses, new cuts and angles, as well as in dress form! Yes please.

Blouse with a Makeover

From season to season it's always a good idea to do a little research on what trends to expect for the season ahead. This could save you both money and time, from buying the wrong pieces and scrambling to find that new crop top in your size come March. Along with that this also gives you enough time to go through what you already have and see what you can recycle, but more of that to come in the near future!

What new key pieces are you excited about? Do you have any of these already? Also, tell me about the ways you like to prepare for your spring wardrobe!

Thanks for stopping by!

StylesMeowEats: Feta, Vegetable, And Rice Bake

Or as I have named it, Rainbow Bake

Here is a delicious recipe I tried out the other day for dinner that's bursting with both color and flavor. This fits right into my new clean eating diet, not to mention it's just as delicious the next day for lunch, cold. Try it out yourself and let me know what you think in the comments section below. Also feel free to get creative by adding in your own burst of color.

Source: Taste.com

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups medium brown rice
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan ( or in my case 1 Cup Ground Parmesan)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/3 Cups sweet potato, peeled, cut into 1cm cubes
  • 1 medium red onion, cut into thick wedges
  • 1 large zucchini
  • 1/2 Cup of cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/3 cup black olives (I skipped this)
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
Baking Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven 395°F. Grease a 3cm-deep, 20cm x 30cm lamington pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, extending paper 3cm from edge of pan.
  2. Cook rice according to packet directions. Transfer to a bowl. Set aside for 20 minutes or until cooled. Stir in parmesan and egg. Press rice mixture into base of prepared pan.
  3. Place sweet potato and onion in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat. Scatter potato mixture over rice base. Bake for 15 minutes or until onion is lightly browned. Remove from oven. Using a vegetable peeler, cut zucchini into ribbons. Top rice mixture with zucchini, tomato, olives and feta. Drizzle with remaining oil. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until vegetables are just tender. Stand in pan for 5 minutes. Cut into thick slices. Serve

Feel free to send me pictures of your Rainbow Bake finished product through Twitter or Instagram +TheStylesMeow  and use the hashtag #StylesMeowEats. I would love to see how it turns out!

Bon Appetit!

My New Year 2014 - Chasing Dreams | LifeStylesMeow

Happy New Year!!!

So, I just now decided to do something a little out of the ordinary and a tad more personal on here, which is write a post about my thoughts on the new year that awaits us all! Think of it as me inviting you into my own little diary. I hope that my story inspires you a bit as well as gives you an extra push of motivation to tackle 2014! So, grab a hot beverage to sip on, as I welcome you into a piece of my heart and personal journey throughout 2013...

This time last year I felt a lot of things to say the least. I felt guilty, disappointed, and mostly just defeated that another year had passed by and I had accomplished nothing on my list of goals. Kinda sad right? Now don't get me wrong I am not one to feel sorry for myself, give up, or sit here and tell you all how life had worked against me, That's not who I am. However on December 31, 2012 I felt really let down by none other than myself! Not a great feeling. I felt this way because I had let my dreams slip right out of my hands. But that following day of January 1st was different.

Before I get into that next day, here's a quick back story of why I felt so guilty and sad about 2012 coming to an end: I had been working at a job I dreaded for over a year , left that job to go after my dreams, panicked 2 months later because of bills, and took the first job that fell into my lap, only to find that this new job was making it next to impossible to chase my dreams more so than the last. Yeah...

Now I could have thrown in the towel and just accept that this is my life now as well as listen to everyone telling me that my head was in the clouds, but that wouldn't be very 'Kaylee' of me! After all I love to root for the underdogs, even if that underdog is me ;) So, on that very first day of a fresh new year in 2013 I decided that I would do whatever it took to complete my goals! I had never been more determined, excited, and scared in my life. I remember being on the phone with Justin (my boyfriend) that same night, telling him how overwhelmed I felt. He then told me something that I tell myself practically everyday now, "Treat your dreams like their your baby". That's it, just treat your dreams, goals, passions,and business ventures like their your baby. If you have a child you don't want it die right? Excuse my being so blunt but it's true ha ha. You have to care for it everyday, nurture it, spend time with it, learn about it, sometimes put it before your own fun, ect. So from that day forward I did WHATEVER IT TOOK and Treated my Dreams like they're my baby! Thanks hun! ;)

The two most important steps I could have ever taken in my life were: 1) Write down my goals somewhere I would see them every single day and 2) Surround myself with positivity and motivation, through quotes, books, documentaries, church, and influential people. I will however tell you first hand it's not always easy to stay positive and motivated, sometime you have to really fight for it!

All throughout 2013 I had some very very big bumps in the road, some resolved themselves, some left me devastated, some are still happening as I type this, but no matter what happened this past year, I was still able to come through for my dreams, or 'my baby'. All in all 2013 has kicked my but! I have pulled all nighters countless times, I've stood in the freezing cold and rain to get a video shot (I would do that anytime though), I've spent hours and sometimes days researching boring things, I've been ridiculed by not so nice people, I've passed up countless nights out and trips in order to work on my dream, I've lost my precious 9 year old kitty Landon suddenly R.I.P. <3, I've seen the ones I love and depend on the most get sick and it's ripped my heart into two, and I've cried, a lot. It would be easy to say that 2013 was a bad year, however there was good that came out of it. Because this year was so rough I have learned so many valuable things about myself and about chasing dreams. I've learned how resilient and independent I am. I learned that if you want something done you have to start it yourself and you have to plan to finish it yourself. I've learned that if you have a dream, YOU have to fight for it and YOU have to believe in yourself before anyone else will. I've learned to apreciate the little moments in life with your loved ones. I've learned valuable lessons through the most amazing influential books ever. I've had to learn to depend on myself. Last but certainly not the least I've learned that I can do anything I want if I work for it.

And now for the first year ever in all my life I am proud to say that was able to check off every single goal on my list! It feels truly amazing to know that I didn't let 2013 defeat me, I let it teach me. <3

So now for the first New Years Day ever, I can invite 2014 in with open arms and an open heart! I have become more independent (which feels amazing btw), more clever, more inspired, and a lot more motivated! I am more determined than ever to go out there and not just chase my dreams but to catch some of them too!!!

I truly hope my story has helped to inspire at least one of you. What I really want this to show you is that no matter what crazy destructible things are thrown your way in life. if you keep your eyes looking forward and towards your dreams you will be both surprised and proud of what you can accomplish!

If you would like to know in detail what steps I took to accomplish my goals leave me a comment! And check back on my YouTube channel www.youttube.com/thestylesmeow if you would like to know what my 2014 Resolutions are :)

Do you guys have any dreams you're planning to chase this year?! Comment below :) If you're still in need of continuous motivation you can also follow me on twitter and instagram @TheStylesMeow, where I've made it my mission to constantly remind you guys to dream big through quotes and pictures ;)

I hope the rest of your day is filled with love and amazingness!
